Here is the bolster cushion I made with pin ribbon ties at the end, and pink ribbon trims of varying widths. Again all trims are optional and down to personal taste.
Step 1:
Cut four peices measuring 15x 10cm (6x4in) from two types of fabric. Lay alternate peices onto a flat surface. Pin together with the right sides facing using a 1.5cm (3/4in) seam, to create a strip 10x54cm (4x21in) long.
Step 2:
Cut another strip of fabric measuring 14x54cm (5 1/2 x 21in). Lay this next to the first strip.
Step 3:
Cut strips measuring 25x54 (9 3/4x21in), 10x54(4x21in) and 9x54 (3 1/2x 21in). Lay all the strips out next to each other with long sides together, and play around with the order to get the combination you like best.
Step 4:
Pin the first two strips together with right sides facing and sew together with a 1.5cm(3/4in) seam. Press the seam open.
Step 5:
Sew the right rest of the strips in place using the above method.
Step 6:
Choose your trims and cut them into 54cm (21in) lengths. Lay the trims along the seams, then pin and sew in place.
Step 7:
Cut two piece of fabric from different patterns, 20x54cm (8x21in). These are for the gathers at each end. Fold the fabric in half widthways, with wrong sides facing, and press. Along the folded edge, fold a further 1.5cm (3/4in) hem and machine-stitch in place, leaving enough room for the ribbon. Feed a length of ribbon through, using a knitting needle (or a pencil) to help move it along if needed.
Step 8:
Pin on the other long edge to the end of your cushion fabric, with right sides facing. Sew and press.
Step 9: Fold your peice of fabric in half with right sides facing, matching up the raw edges. Pin and sew together with a 1.5cm(3/4in) hem. Turn through and press.
You are now ready to fill with a bolster cushion, draw and tie both ends.
